For my brother,

Josh

+

Father God, I come before You right now lifting up my brother Josh. Lord, Your Word says to taste and see that You are good, and that the man who trusts in You is blessed. I anchor this week's prayer there, and I anchor it with my whole heart, because Josh and Kelly are walking through the kind of season where a man has to decide whether he actually believes that verse or just used to.

Lord, I lift up Kelly. I am asking You for supernatural healing. Not managed. Not tolerated. Healed. You are the God who touched lepers and raised the dead, and cancer is not too big for You. Let every treatment work beyond what the doctors expect. Let every scan surprise them. Let the cells that do not belong in her body die, and let the ones that do be strengthened. You made her, Lord. You know every cell. Speak to her body the way You spoke to the sea, and let it obey.

Father, give Kelly strength for the hard days. Give her rest when her body is tired. Give her peace when her mind wants to run ahead to what might happen. Let her feel Your nearness in the treatment rooms and the waiting rooms and the quiet middle of the night. Be good to her in ways she can point to.

Lord, hold Josh. He is the husband watching his wife fight, and there is a helplessness in that no man is built for. Give him strength that is not his own. Give him the grace to be steady without pretending he is fine. Let him lead his family through this by trusting You out loud, so that his children see what faith looks like when it costs something.

Father, I lift up their family. Wrap Your arms around their kids. Give them security in a season that feels insecure. Let the whole family trust Your plan and Your love, not because they understand it, but because they know You. Show them that You are good even in the middle of this, and let them taste it together.

And Father, I rebuke every attack of the enemy on Josh, on Kelly, and on their family. Satan, you have no authority here. You do not get to use this diagnosis to whisper that God is not good. You do not get to convince Josh that God has abandoned them. You do not get to plant fear in their children or despair in their home. You do not get to touch Kelly's hope. We see your schemes, and we shut the door on every one of them in the name of Jesus.

Father, build a wall of protection around Kelly's body, Josh's heart, and their children. Send Your angels into every appointment and every room this week. Let them feel Your nearness so clearly that the enemy's voice loses every inch of ground it tried to take.

Refill what is empty, Lord. Give Josh and Kelly moments of joy this week that come out of nowhere, just to remind them that You see them, You delight in them, and You are fighting for them.

I thank You for Josh. I thank You for Kelly. I thank You that You are good, and I am trusting You for their story.

In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

Brother, I am not going to pretend this week's anchor is easy for you. Taste and see that the Lord is good, when your wife has cancer, is one of the hardest sentences in the Bible to say out loud. So I am going to say it for you until you can say it yourself.

Here is what I know. God did not stop being good the day Kelly got the diagnosis. His goodness is not a weather pattern. It is who He is. And His love for Kelly is deeper than yours, which I know is hard to imagine. He is not standing at a distance from this. He is in the room.

Trust does not mean you understand the plan. It means you know the One who has it, and you know He is good. Bring Him everything this week. The fear. The anger. The exhaustion. He can carry all of it, and He is not offended by any of it.

  1. Each morning this week, before the day starts, put your hand on Kelly and pray one sentence out loud: “Lord, You are good. Heal her. We trust You.” Let her hear you say it.
  2. Pick one brother from the Empty Chair and tell him honestly how you are doing this week. Not the strong version. The real one. You were not built to carry this alone, and you do not have to.
  3. Each night, name one way God was good to your family that day. Even small. Write it somewhere. On the hard days, read the list.
“O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.”
Psalm 34:8 KJV
